Your Physical Therapy Visit

Before, During, And After Your Visit

What To Expect

Maybe you’re new to physical therapy, or just new to physical therapy at Concentra—but you’re thinking about your upcoming physical therapy appointment, and you’re not sure what to expect. What actually happens during a PT visit? Do you need to bring anything? Do you have to dress a certain way? Is it going to hurt?

Before Your visit

All those questions above? Bring them to your appointment. Don’t be afraid to ask your physical therapist questions, especially if you’re new to physical therapy. We want you to be comfortable during your visit, and it’s important for you to understand your treatment. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes that you can move around in!

    During your visit

Concentra physical therapists collaborate with your physician on your treatment, so they’ll know a lot about your case already. Still, they’ll start your visit by asking you questions about your injury, if it hurts, and your range of movement. They’ll also perform a physical examination to see how much you can move and your range of motion. When that’s done, they’ll start your treatment. This may include special exercises or equipment, depending on your injury.

      After your visit

When your physical therapy visit is over and you’ve scheduled a follow-up visit (if needed), your physical therapist will give you a personalized home exercise program for you to follow when at home. This program will be customized specifically for you and your injury, and it’ll contain special recommendations on what to do at home for a quicker recovery. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the center you are receiving care at and ask to speak to your physical therapist. Learn more about home exercise programs here.
