Hair Drug Tests
An Accurate And Hard-To-Cheat Testing Method
What is a hair drug test?
Hair drug tests use hair to test for drugs by screening for traces of drugs in the hair follicle. These traces are carried to the hair follicle through the bloodstream and will stay in your hair for up to 90 days. Because of this long detection period—and because they’re very difficult to cheat—hair drug tests are very popular with employers.
What a hair drug test tests for?
Hair drug tests can test for a lot of different substances, including cocaine, marijuana, opiates, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and PCP. They can sometimes even help find out when someone last used drugs, and if they’ve stopped. Even people with short hair can get a hair drug test, but the clinician will need more hair to perform the test. If someone is bald or has a shaved head, they can use body hair to get a hair drug test.
Can you cheat a hair drug test?
It’s almost impossible to cheat a hair drug test. The hair sample is usually collected at the time of the visit, so there’s not an opportunity to substitute someone else’s hair. Because the testing window is so long—within 90 days of last drug use—and because hair is so good at storing information about what’s in your blood, typical methods to cheat don’t work.
