The Database Engineer is responsible for the execution of a wide array of duties, and will work with to provide technical leadership within the scope of project implementations, infrastructure maintenance, and support. These duties include; installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining all client databases on Oracle Exadata, as well as, performance monitoring, troubleshooting and client support. Additionally, this colleague assists with testing, implementation, and installation of new/improved systems, as well as product upgrades.

Responsibilities
  • Apply quarterly full stack Exadata patches (Database, Compute nodes, Storage nodes, and Switches)
  • Install, configure, tune, and troubleshoot Exadata
  • Ensure all database system operational processes are managed according to established service level agreements. Respond within defined SLA requirements in relation to database
  • Maintain database objects such as indexes, tables, views, constraints, stored procedures
  • Archive, backup / recovery, replication, cloning, import/export and refresh
  • Assist database users
  • Design, test, and optimize/tune RDBMS components
  • Provide guidance to design, maintenance, and documentation of integrated database security and components in relation to SOX compliance
  • Review and assess new features or upgrades to existing RDBMS components as well as application database changes
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize programming code for maintenance jobs and application reporting Develop shell scripts as required
  • Perform continuing analysis of database infrastructure to assist in proactive tuning efforts
  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical and minor issues detected via monitoring
  • Perform database updates, patching, and prescribed maintenance during approved maintenance windows
  • Interact with vendor to resolve issues and/or maintain vendor relationships
  • Develop capacity assessment practices to forecast future software and system needs
  • Conduct database security risk assessments that include, but not limited to, monitoring, investigation and reporting of security and access violations
  • Work on an on-call rotation responding to alerts within the defined SLA
  • Work closely with neighboring departments with the intent on ensuring proper implementations of projects and maintaining a collaboration effort
  • Attend meetings and interact regularly with management, team, and clients to continuously improve services
  • Perform changes within Company regulations and security standards
  • Maintain one’s expertise in assigned roles and responsibilities

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in information technology or equivalent education and experience
  • In lieu of undergraduate degree, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice versa
  • Oracle Certified Professional for Oracle 19 - preferred

 

JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Customarily has at least five or more years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator on Oracle Exadata
  • High availability architecture and design experience within an enterprise environment a plus
  • SQL Server and/or ASE (Sybase) experience is a plus
