The Manager, Business Intelligence will be responsible for leading a group of 8–12 technical resources (including support from strategic sourcing partners), in designing, building, and maintaining a strategic, scalable data warehousing solution for the Concentra organization. The successful candidate will be technically deep, hands-on, and well-versed in various information management technologies, and will be able to partner with the Business and other IS departments in order to establish a scalable self-serve reporting and analytics environment. The role requires a leader who can successfully manage multiple strategic initiatives and projects in a fast-paced and changing environment, while keeping up to date with industry trends in the Information Management field.

 

This leadership position is responsible for creating and maintaining a world-class operationally and strategically excellent development organization in Information Management. Responsibilities

The Details

The Manager Business Intelligence will be responsible for leading a diverse functional team of technical individuals to build a data warehouse, deliver related technology projects, and manage operational data needs. This position requires the candidate to have the knowledge, experience, skills, and aptitude to engage in multiple modes, from team lead and manager, to providing strategic insight to upper management, to subject matter expert, and when necessary, be hands-on and have sufficient technical depth to resolve challenges.

 

 Information Management Strategy & Planning

  • Engage Concentra Business and Technology teams and Business Analytic stakeholders to understand business and operational needs to plan and align current and future data warehousing capabilities to support enterprise and business priorities and initiatives, and address the resulting capability gaps/needs
  • Provide thought leadership and problem-solving skills to address current and future Business Analytic issues, including Big Data and analytics, structured and unstructured data. 

Tool Administration

  • Continuously evaluate alignment of current Information Management tools and software with current IM strategy
  • Stay current with and evaluate industry trends in IM tools; evaluate and make recommendations on how new tools can enhance the Information Management landscape at Concentra
  • Install, deploy, and support Information Management related software and tools 

Team Administration

  • Provide oversight of all operational activities within the team and projects led by team members
  • Proactively manage team capacity, workloads, and priorities, ensuring that the team can work on multiple initiatives in parallel
  • Establish and maintain efficient source control processes, coding standards and internal peer review processes
  • Own and manage departmental budgets (capital & expense) and contribute to annual financial planning process
  • Ensure cross-training between development team members
  • Manage and resolve inter- and intra-team conflicts, engaging HR or other IT leaders as needed
  • Conduct formal and informal performance assessments for team members, per established cadences and processes 

Mentoring & Staff Development

  • Develop and motivate the team. Evaluate and strengthen the team, as required, to solidify succession plans and enhance capabilities to meet strategic and operating objectives. Recruiting and develop highly effective direct reports and staff.
  • Be an active leader in the company. Foster a collaborative cross-functional culture and successfully influence other business functions and executive management. Promote a culture of success, pride, performance, discipline, and creativity. Be an effective spokesperson and champion for Concentra as a whole. 

Reference, Master, Metadata Management & Modeling

  • Ensure the development of capabilities to enable easy access to high quality, integrated Reference, Master, and Metadata
  • Assist the business with operational data definitions (e.g., data modeling, table & index design, DB design)
  • Support the business by leading analytical data designs (e.g., dimensional modeling, DW table & index design, DW database design)
  • Design physical data constructs (e.g., converting ERD/dimensional models to table design, indexing, physical storage constructs, DDLs) 

Database Development

  • Responsible for the rationalization and standardization of database platforms that meet security and regulatory requirements, operational SLAs and be agile enough to meet business needs in a quickly changing industry. Providing the right service at minimal administrative cost.
  • Focus and move to a (near) real time operating environment, as well as systems requiring high availability, increased performance, more stringent SLA’s, and new ways of doing business.
  • Implement a database strategy - design & build in support of Business Analytics and Information Management functions.
  • Partner with the DBA Manager to define and align on a comprehensive strategy and implementation approach to minimizing database administration costs.
  • Stay current with industry trends in database related technologies 

Data Warehousing and Integration

  • Implement a data warehousing architecture strategy, design and incremental roadmap that overcomes current challenges and appropriately meets current and future analytic needs.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data repository and storage architecture including solutions for data sourcing, data integration & staging, data hub (data warehouses, stores, marts, etc.), data privacy, reporting/analytics/views, data quality & governance, leveraging existing toolsets and capabilities.
  • Manage a technical team that designs, implements, and maintains data repositories as defined.
  • In partnership with IS leadership and architects, define and implement clear guiding principles and an integration reference model to enable agile, secure, and timely integration of data.
  • Manage a technical team that designs and builds data services to support business requirements, and adheres to comprehensive, standardized, flexible and scalable data integration architectural models.

Qualifications

Education/Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience is required. 
  • In lieu of undergraduate degree, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice versa

 

Job-related Experience

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will possess the following skills and experiences:

  • 10+ years of progressive responsibilities within IS functions, with a strong track record of work delivery and organizational leadership. Previous health care industry experience within both the provider and payer markets would be major advantage.
  • 5+ years of experience in the field of business intelligence, with a heavy focus on data warehousing and ETL technologies.
  • Prior experience in creating one or more enterprise data warehouse, preferably in health care industry
  • Strong technical skills and working knowledge of common data integration, reporting, database, MDM, OLAP and other data management tools and methodologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL, MDX, Sybase, MicroStrategy, Microsoft BI, QlikView, ERwin, Big Data, data as a service technology, data appliances).
  • Must be able to see any development activities from a DBA perspective in order to better partner and align with the DBA team; DBA career experience is a plus
  • Must be familiar with SDLC methodologies
  • Proven leadership experience setting the vision and building, leading, and motivating high performance development teams. Leads with creativity, strategic thinking, and innovation. Has a driven personality, “can do attitude,” and results-oriented management style. Experience leading managers, supporting multiple products, estimating project resource requirements, and managing product delivery schedules and associated risks are essential.
