Flu Services
Providing flu services to the workplace
Influenza - referred to as "flu" - is a serious threat to the health and well-being of your employees. The flu season is October through March, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that individuals in high risk groups receive an influenza vaccination before or during this season, and even after influenza has been documented in your community. This includes everyone six months of age and older and those that are at high risk for flu complications including young children and pregnant women.
Flu viruses spread mainly from person to person, through coughing or sneezing by people infected with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching a contaminated surface and then touching their mouth or nose. The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get a flu shot each year. Good health habits can also reduce the risk of catching the flu, including covering your mouth when you cough and washing your hands often. There are also antiviral drugs that can be prescribed to treat the flu in severe cases.
Flu prevention
The flu shot is an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. Flu shots are safe, and are considered the primary method for preventing flu-related respiratory illness and physician visits related to flu. In addition to flu vaccination, you should avoid close contact with people who are sick, stay home when you are sick, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, get plenty of sleep, and drink plenty of fluids.
