Emergency response to workplace chemical hazards
At any accident or natural disaster, emergency response workers encounter a range of issues, including hazardous chemicals. Protecting the health of these workers from hazardous chemicals, as well as from injuries, diseases, and fatalities is paramount.
Given the very serious nature of chemical hazards, its critical for employers to plan appropriately for mitigate risks to ensure workers safety and health during all phases of responsebefore, during, and post deployment. Beyond worker safety, managers should also be prepared to address issues, such as bloodborne infectious disease, personal protective equipment to protect lungs, skin, eyes, and ears, and traumatic stress.
