Asphalt Fumes
Reduce asphalt fume exposure
While asphalt provides an essential component in our daily livesfrom the roads we drive on to the roofs overheadit can also present potential health issues for workers. A derivative of crude petroleum oil, the fumes generated during the production or application of asphalt can cause respiratory related issues ranging from mild to severe.
According to research studies, some workers involved in asphalt paving operations experienced lower respiratory tract symptoms (e.g., coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath) and pulmonary function changes. Other workers exposed to asphalt fumes have reported eye, nose, and throat irritation.
