Seasonal Flu FAQ

Answers to questions about the flu

Here are some common questions about the flu. If you have additional questions, please contact us.

Q: Does Concentra provide on-site flu shot clinics for companies?
A: Yes. We have a robust program for providing on-site flu shot clinics. Employers can use it to help protect their employees and business from the negative impact of the flu. See our page on Scheduling a Flu Shot Clinic for more information.
Q: What preventive measures are there for an employee who has been exposed to the flu?
A: If a patient has a high risk for complications from the flu and has been exposed to the virus, our clinicians may recommend an antiviral medication, which helps the body fight off infection from flu strains and lessens flu symptoms if the flu is contracted.
Q: When will flu shots become available?
A: On-site flu vaccinations are generally available starting in September.
Q: Are flu shots available at the medical center locations?
A: Concentra offers walk-in flu shots on a self-pay basis, including cash, credit card, or check. To avoid wait times, please contact the nearest medical center location for pricing, requirements, and any specific hours for flu shots at that center. Individuals will need to present a photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. Find the nearest Concentra medical center with our Location Finder.
Q: Will Concentra provide flu vaccinations for pregnant women?
A: Women who are or will be pregnant during the flu season are considered high risk for complications from the flu and should get the flu vaccine. Our clinicians will provide inactivated influenza vaccinations for those at-risk women.
Q: Should children get the flu vaccine? At what age?
A: The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the annual flu vaccination for children ages 6 months and older. However, our policy is to only administer vaccinations to children ages 9 years and older. Concentra requires parental consent to administer vaccinations to minors, which usually includes anyone under 18, depending on your state.
Q: How is the flu transmitted?
A: The flu is spread through direct contact with contaminated surfaces or through the air, in small confined spaces with others who have contracted the influenza virus. Infected adults can infect others one day before getting symptoms and up to five days after getting sick.
Q: What are some common symptoms of the flu?
A: The most frequent flu symptoms are sore throat, fever, and coughing. Other common symptoms include chills, muscle pains, severe headaches, fatigue, and discomfort.

Warning: Individuals should seek medical help as soon as possible if they are ill with flu symptoms and develop one of the following additional symptoms: difficulty breathing, chest pain, or mental confusion. These individuals might have a chronic disease, a compromised immune system, or other major health problems.

*Final vaccine composition is confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Concentra does not guarantee the quality of the vaccine or any results of the vaccine or that any person inoculated with the vaccine will not get the flu.
