How to tend to a wound

Whenever you have a minor wound that requires treatment, Concentra Urgent Care can help. Most people are concerned about whether a wound is infected or if stitches are required. This section will discuss stitches.

Concentra Urgent Care clinicians can select steri-strips, a glue-like substance, staples (for the scalp) or stitches to close a wound. Which is used specific to each patient. Normally, the decision is made based on the wishes of the patient, the location of the wound and the severity of the wound. Wounds should be closed within 24 hours.

Locations that are taken into account are areas where scarring may be a concern (face), areas that bend or move (elbows, knees), or a place that may be more prone to infection (hands). A person’s age (child, adult, or senior) and/or associated illnesses, such as diabetes, may also determine how the wound is treated. The severity of the wound is based on how deep the wound has penetrated the skin, as well as the size and cause of the wound.
