Sunburn
Sunburns from the sun and tanning beds
Sunburn is an inflammation of the skin that results from overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or a tanning bed.
The best ways to avoid sunburn when you’re outside is to wear protective clothing, use a sunscreen with a minimum protection of SPF 15, and be aware of the peak hours for UV exposure–10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Frequent re-application of sunscreen is critical especially when swimming. However, despite the best intentions, sunburns can happen to anyone. Note: individuals with fair skin and children may be more susceptible.
While painful and uncomfortable, most times sunburn requires no medical care. But, if you have any questions or concerns a quick call to one of our ready care clinics can help–and if you need to come in, we can treat you right away.
