Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, or STDs, as they are commonly referred to, are some of the most common infectious diseases present today. Sexually transmitted diseases are a group of diseases that are spread via sexual contact between individuals (vaginal intercourse, oral sex, or anal sex).
There are more than 20 STDs that exist, the most deadly being caused by the HIV virus. Other common STDs include syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. If you have an STD caused by bacteria or parasites, your Concentra Urgent Care can treat it with antibiotics or other medicines. If you have an STD caused by a virus, there is no cure, although medicines can often keep the disease under control.
Correct usage of latex condoms greatly reduces, but does not completely eliminate, the risk of catching or spreading STDs.
