Heat Stroke
Hyperthermia and heat stroke
Heatstroke (sunstroke) is a form of hyperthermia, an abnormally high body temperature accompanied by physical and psychological symptoms. Heatstroke can be caused by hot, humid weather conditions and/or strenuous work or exercise during these conditions. Dehydration - a lack of a proper level of fluids in the body - can also contribute to sunstroke.
Symptoms of heatstroke
Symptoms of heatstroke include an abnormally high body temperature accompanied by a lack or absence of sweating with red or flushed skin, fast pulse, respiratory distress, and psychological components, such as strange behavior, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, and disorientation. In extreme cases, heatstroke can also result in a seizure or coma.
