Headaches and Migraines

Contain your migraines

Headaches can occur for a number of reasons and are one of the most frequently treated illnesses at Concentra Urgent Care. The two most common kinds of headaches for which we provide care are migraines and tension headaches.

Tension headaches, which are often caused by stress and affect both sides of the head, begin in the back of the neck and head as the muscles in the neck tighten and contract. Many people also describe feeling a band of pressure around the head, with the most intense pain being above the eyebrows. In spite of the discomfort, most people are able to function with a tension headache.

On the other hand, migraines, which are caused by the enlargement of blood vessels and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around the blood vessels, usually affect only one side of the head. However, they are much more debilitating than tension headaches.

Migraine sufferers often complain of intense pain, pressure, or pounding, normally near the eye of the affected side and lasting for long durations of time. Symptoms may include pain that gets worse with physical activity, sensitivity to light and sound, as well as nausea or vomiting.
