Frequently asked questions

Answers ofr physicians in primary care

Concentra has detailed plans and processes in place to ensure a seamless, successful transition, but we also work closely with each physician to tailor plans to individual needs and preferences.

Eligibility

Where / when are these opportunities available? Do I / does my practice qualify for consideration?

We are currently seeking primary care physicians in several target markets. We also plan to add new markets steadily throughout 2012 and beyond, so we welcome inquiries from interested physicians nationwide, which allows us to gauge interest and select new areas. If you like what you've seen here— please let us know!

If I don't own my own practice, is there a place in the Concentra vision for me?

Absolutely! We welcome both individuals and partners who own practices, as well as independent primary care physicians who want to join a phenomenal team to enjoy a bright future. Whatever your current status, there could certainly be a place for you here.

Logistics / Finances

Will I have to change locations?

We will work closely with you to determine the best location to serve patients and advance your practice. In many cases, physicians maintain their current location, while others find it beneficial to relocate to an existing Concentra facility or a new location with physician partners.

Will I have to change the name / nature of my practice?

Most physicians (and patients!) welcome the recognition and positive association of the Concentra brand. In some cases, an existing practice name may be used during a transition period to help raise awareness and ease confusion among patients.

What will my contract involve? Will it include a non-compete clause?

In essence, your contract will be a traditional employment agreement, including details regarding compensation, roles and responsibilities of both parties, and terms and conditions of the affiliation agreement.

How long must both sides commit to the arrangement? Under what circumstances could either party terminate the agreement?

Formal employment terms and obligations vary case by case, but our intention is to maintain the affiliation for at least 3-5 years. Ideally, both parties will find the arrangement so beneficial that it will continue indefinitely (see below).

How long do physicians typically stay with Concentra after being acquired / recruited?

Of physicians who affiliate with Concentra intending to continue in practice (rather than transitioning to retirement or another career), more than 90% remain with us for several years. In fact, the average tenure of current Concentra affiliated physicians is an astounding 10-15 years!

Staff / Resources

What will happen to my staff / colleagues?

We value and respect the essential role support staff and other colleagues often play in a primary care practice. We will work with you and your team personally to determine the best options for each person based on his or her preferences and the needs of the practice. In most cases, staff members support the transition and remain to play an important and fulfilling role in the new practice.

What administrative support will I receive?

We will provide the tools, systems, personnel, and other resources to handle all aspects of administration and business operations. This frees you to focus wholly on patient care and, if you like, on enhancing your overall practice. To discuss what we can / will provide in your specific case, please contact us to learn more.

Will other team members (additional physicians, nurses, support staff) be joining the practice?

In most cases, we provide additional staff to help manage paperwork and scheduling. Each practice will also have a dedicated care coordinator to follow up with patients and help ensure they are receiving the best possible care—whether in the office, working with outside specialists, or during / after a hospitalization.

What resources (equipment, systems, access to new people / tools) will Concentra provide?

As a Concentra affiliated physician, you will have access to an impressive array of resources including learning and information tools, educational activities and events, medical expert panels for peer advice, and more. To support your practice we may also supply new equipment or technology, depending on your individual needs and circumstances. To discuss the details of your particular situation, please contact us today.

Patients / Community

How much control / flexibility will I have over how I run my practice / care for patients?

No one can care for your patients better than you. Concentra respects and values your professional expertise, unique talents and insights, and personal relationships with your patients. Our goal is to reduce or eliminate the burdens of practice unrelated to patient care so you can focus on doing what you do best —helping your patients enjoy optimal health and wellness. While we promote best practices and provide resources to help inform your decisions, we do not interfere with your physician-patient relationship.

How will this affect my other professional / community affiliations / activities?

In most cases, affiliation with Concentra has no effect on existing affiliation or activities. In fact, a renewed focus on patient care, access to outstanding learning and leadership opportunities, and new professional connections often lead to exciting new opportunities.

How is this any different / better than selling to a hospital or joining a local practice network?

Concentra combines the best of both worlds. We offer the resources, stability, and opportunities of a large national organization, but the personal treatment and focus on patient care of a group practice. That's because we were founded—and are still led—by practicing physicians just like you. If you're uncomfortable with the bureaucracy and micromanagement of a hospital network, as well as the uncertainty and limitations of a local practice group, Concentra could be your ideal partner.
