Influenza – referred to as "flu" – is a serious threat to the health and well-being of you and your family. Vaccination is the primary method for preventing flu and its severe complications.* You can get vaccinated at a Concentra Urgent Care location.
The current seasonal flu vaccination is generally safe and up to 90% effective in preventing flu-related respiratory illness, physician visits related to the flu, hospitalization, and even death. Plus, the vaccine helps maintain a stronger immune system if a new strain of flu emerges. The CDC has just approved a vaccine for the H1N1 (swine) flu that is also effective in prevention of this disease.

If you become exposed to the flu, your physician may also recommend that you begin taking an antiviral medication. This medication doesn’t help prevent the flu, but it helps your body fight the infection so your flu symptoms may be less severe. Recently, the CDC updated its guidelines for use of antiviral medication in treating the H1N1 (swine) flu. It should be limited to cases with severe symptoms where hospitalization may be required. Overuse of antiviral medications could lead more quickly to resistant strains of the flu.
