What Specialist Care is, who it's for
Concentra's affiliated physicians are, by definition, primary care doctors who must be able to treat a wide range of injuries that routinely occur in the workplace. When an injury is especially complicated or severe, our physicians call on specialists who treat and manage injuries in a manner that’s consistent with our own philosophies.
These specialists — typically orthopedic doctors, podiatrists, internists, and surgeons — work as consultants to the Concentra doctor and provide valuable expertise for the most effective treatment of our patients. Concentra remains the primary care provider and manages the care of our patients from beginning to end.
How we serve you with Specialist Care
- When a Concentra-affiliated physician decides it’s in the best interest of the patient to refer him or her to a specialist, the doctor explains to the patient the reasons and the type of specialist he or she will see.
- Concentra handles the referral process: making the appointment, contacting necessary parties, and taking care of other details.
- After seeing the patient, the specialist confers with the Concentra primary care physician on the recommended course of treatment.
- Unless the patient needs to see the specialist again, he or she returns to the Concentra-affiliated physician for treatment and/or counsel on how treatment will continue.
How you benefit from our Specialist Care
- Quality medicine – This program combines the expertise of specialists with the proven care model of Concentra, so patients receive high-quality medical care that continues to focus on their return to work and to normal activity.
- One point of contact – Concentra doesn't “hand off” patients to our specialists; rather, our doctors consult with the specialists and continue to manage their patients’ care until completion.
- Time savings – Since Concentra handles the details of the referral process, patients have more time to focus on their recovery, their modified duties at work, and other productive activities.
When an injury is outside our doctor's areas of expertise, we call on a specialist. When it's in the best interest of our patient to consult with another doctor, we call on a specialist.
That's not lack of ability . . . that's good medicine.
