Answers to Frequently Asked Questions to help you learn more about Concentra TotalCare:
Q: My employees all seem healthy to me. Why do I need TotalCare?
A: Conventional wisdom says that when a healthy person develops a chronic disease, it frequently represents a long, steady decline in health. But research shows that it doesn’t have to be the case. What really happens is that an apparently healthy person may have a few risk factors that, given enough time, will develop a chronic health condition or disease. It can happen quickly and unexpectedly, and it is costly. That’s why TotalCare is focused on identifying those risk factors early and prompting action before problems occur.
Q: TotalCare has more components and services than needed for the size of my company. Can I just pick the services that I need?
A: Yes, TotalCare is fully customizable to meet your company’s unique needs. As part of our program’s consulting component, we will sit down with you to learn about your company and your employee population before we propose how TotalCare could be implemented throughout your organization. We also appreciate that resources are not unlimited and will offer you the most cost-effective approach to implementing TotalCare services for your organization.
Q: My company is so big and so spread out. Can TotalCare really work for me?
A: Yes. In our nearly 30-year history, Concentra has grown into the country’s largest provider of employer health care services. We have a nationwide reach, with more than 324 Concentra Medical Centers and 270 employer on-site facilities. To reach remote areas, we have a fleet of mobile medical centers, and we have kits available that enable employees to be screened in areas that even our fleet cannot reach. In addition, we have network partners throughout the United States that can assist us in the delivery of specific health services.
Q: What is the value of screening my employee population?
A: Through population-based health screening, we can identify and educate those at risk and provide targeted lifestyle support in an effort to identify disease early, and reduce risks before they experience medical problems. TotalCare’s Health Improvement Program has the complete set of components (HRA and biometric screening; data analysis and risk stratification; personal health coaching; and targeted lifestyle support) to assist those with significant findings to take action to improve their health and productivity, and reduce their risks of future disease.
Q: My employees are worried that their private medical information will be shared with their supervisors and our HR Department. What can you do about this?
A: We do not share personal health information with employers without specific written authorization from the employee. We have two safeguards in place to prevent this from occurring. First, we maintain a separate identity from your organization so your employees know us as Concentra and not as their company health care provider. Second, employee health information is only shared with customers at the aggregate or summary level. For example, you will know that, say, 20% of your employees are at risk of developing diabetes, but you will not know the identity of those specific employees. And we communicate this fact clearly to your employees throughout the process.
Q: I’m not sure this will work for my employees. I’m afraid that only my health-conscious employees, those that are already healthy, will use the coaching and training. Will those employees who truly need it actually use it?
A: Nobody can promise you 100% participation. But remember the numbers: You only have to prevent a few illnesses and chronic diseases to have a significant effect on your health care costs. And we believe you will have significant participation in TotalCare because of the following: First, your employees will have good awareness of TotalCare and culture of health created by your leadership. Second, the personalized action plans will provide a plan-of-action that will show results and that will help them become healthier. Third, an incentive plan, such as having to pay more for health insurance if they don’t participate, will help spur action. Lastly, our coaches will provide consistent, positive feedback and monitoring to help your employees acquire the skills and confidence to achieve the goals in their personalized action plans.
Q: Can you help me publicize TotalCare throughout my company?
A: Yes. Our Marketing Department will work with you to create an internal communications program that will publicize TotalCare to your employees and your supervisors. These communications may include direct mail, paycheck stuffers, broadcast e-mail, posters, handouts, newsletter articles, etc. We know that awareness of TotalCare is a fundamental key to success, and we are committed to helping you build that awareness throughout your organization. In addition, our TotalCare program support and on-site staff help maintain health promotion education with your staff, recommend workplace environmental and policy support, and organize social support for a healthy lifestyle. Lastly, our TotalCare Health Improvement Portal may be utilized, if desired, to enhance access to health information and targeted lifestyle support.
Q: Can Concentra really deliver on all these components?
A: Yes. We have the nationwide coverage to conduct all the screenings for your company. Our affiliated clinical laboratory is used to perform the tests to ensure a quick turnaround of results. We have the technology to analyze your employee data, identify at-risk employees, and create personalized action plans. We have the coaching and intervention systems in place to work with your at-risk employees to help them get healthier. And we have the reporting system to provide you with the data you need at every step in the process.
Q: What do you mean when you say TotalCare shows my employees that their company cares about them?
A: A program such as TotalCare is designed with your employees’ health in mind. When you and your leadership collaborate as health champions, the program shows employees that their company views them as people, not statistics; as a resource that the company values and wants to retain for a long time. That’s why this program will not only help companies in terms of reducing staff turnover, but also in recruiting new employees because of its perceived value.
Q: I’m confused between the TotalCare Health Improvement Program and other TotalCare On-site services. What is the difference?
A: The Health Improvement Program is often implemented as a company’s first part of TotalCare. Briefly, it consists of the screening, analysis, coaching, and targeted lifestyle support of your employees to identify risks and help improve their health. The additional TotalCare On-site services are provided at your workplace and can treat many of your employees’ medical needs: occupational medicine, urgent care, and primary care. Most employers take an incremental approach to TotalCare and consider TotalCare On-site services after they have successfully implemented the Health Improvement Program.
Q: What do you mean when you say that you perform occupational health and safety services?
A: Our occupational health and safety services focus on both your employees and your workplace, all directed at keeping your employees safe and healthy and keeping you OSHA-compliant. We can perform noise and respirator tests and medical surveillance screenings on your employees. We can perform hazardous materials tests, hazard assessments, and ergonomic analyses in your workplace. It’s all about learning about your company, determining exactly what you need, and providing that unique blend of services to you. Safety training and industrial hygiene are important ways to keep your employees free of workplace injury and illness.
