Organizational Changes

James M. Greenwood Jim Greenwood is the new Chief Executive Officer of Concentra. He assumes this role as Dan Thomas, Concentra’s former President and CEO, becomes Chairman of the Board. In this interview, Jim answers questions about the recent changes at Concentra and what they mean for patients, clients, and the company itself.

Concentra has experienced several changes in the past several months. What has been happening?

Effective June 25, Concentra’s Network Services division became a stand-alone company named Viant. This change follows the April transaction whereby the workers’ compensation components of our Care Management division and related operations became part of Coventry Health Care.

Why did the company make these organizational changes?

Concentra entered the agreement with Coventry because we believed that our workers’ compensation businesses would be better positioned for growth as part of a larger combined entity. We felt the individual strengths of our operations in provider bill review, care management, and pharmacy benefit cost management could be more effectively joined with Coventry’s robust PPO operations.

As for the creation of Viant with our Network Services division, we realized that although Concentra is a health care company, our Health Services and Network Services business units were operating in different aspects of the health care arena – especially in light of the Coventry transaction. The business units had distinctive clients, strategies, and outcome measurements. Separating them would allow each company to focus on its markets and core strengths, to attract capital and key talent, to continue innovating, and to pursue strategic acquisitions.

What do these changes mean for the company’s largest business unit, the Health Services division?

Our Health Services name and brand has become simply “Concentra.” Beneath this corporate identity are existing brands such as Concentra Medical Centers and Auto Injury Solutions as well as a newly named brand, Concentra Health Solutions (formerly Diversified Services). We know that approximately 30,000 patients trust us each day, and our interaction with them is a critical element of our future success.

What does this mean for the future of Concentra?

With the completion of these organizational changes, Concentra’s primary focus returns to our roots in providing exceptional health care services. We are determined to further broaden the use of our Concentra Medical Centers locations as we strive to improve the health and productivity of the American workforce. We will also be focused on delivering an array of employer and payer services through our Concentra Health Solutions and Auto Injury Solutions lines of business.

How is going back to your roots going to make health care accessible and affordable?

Considering the scale and experience we have developed in the field, and our leadership role in formulating and executing on strategies to help contain rising health care costs, we are excited to continue implementing on our mission statement. As a company, Concentra looks forward to beginning a new chapter in our company's growth story and are look forward to the opportunities we see ahead for Concentra.

What is your first order of business as the company's new CEO?

I want to make a clarion call to our patients, clients, and the health care industry that Concentra will play an increasingly important role in the improvement of the health and productivity of the nation’s workforce. We have a passion for continuous progress toward excellence in customer service and, above everything, integrity in all dealings. For all these reasons, Concentra is in a strong position to help reinvent health care in America.
