Concentra, a leader in the delivery of health care solutions, has launched a new logo specifically designed to support the organization’s strategic extension of its expertise in occupational health to the public with the national expansion of its urgent care services.
The new logo, the boldest redesign of the Concentra logo to date, incorporates key elements that leverage Concentra’s proficiency in medicine and communicates a brand that is welcoming, caring, and efficient.
Featuring a modern font and a cross symbol in bright orange, the new brand represents the company’s renewed approach to improving customer service and redefining the patient experience. Just as a red cross has come to represent emergency, the orange cross communicates a sense of urgency to patients along with a warm, inviting culture. In addition, the name ‘Concentra’ in a deep blue intermixes with the orange cross to create a brand that is more recognizable and retail facing.
Concentra plans to phase in the new logo throughout the year to coincide with facility upgrades and further medical center acquisitions, creating a consistent environment and experience for its patients and customers. The Concentra brand will also refresh its advertising campaign and promotional efforts centered on the new tagline “Treated Right,” which reflects the company’s enhanced commitment to customer service and clinical excellence.
“We kept the brand equity of our name but refreshed the look of our logo to represent our company’s new strategic direction,” said Keith Newton, President and COO of Concentra. “We wanted a look that represented our commitment to the patient experience of ‘Treated Right,’ which succinctly states our renewed focus of putting the patient first.”
The new direction focuses on the patient, from the products and services offered, to improved patient experiences, to engaging with patients to create interactions that are welcoming, respectful, and skillful.
The new logo is intended to communicate to patients and customers that Concentra is not a completely different company, but a renewed Concentra. Following the sale and spin off of other divisions, this new brand helps communicate to patients and customers Concentra’s improved concentration on delivering health services.
Concentra’s logo was created by Little, an architectural design firm based in Charlotte, N.C., selected for its experience in creating visual identities that build strong emotional connections with consumers. Little also developed architectural design components and medical center concepts, key elements of which will be implemented in current and new medical facilities. Other clients of Little include GUESS?, Lucky Brand Jeans, The Home Depot, and CVS/pharmacy.
In addition to enhancing patient interaction and improving customer relations, Concentra is committed to provide extensive field and operations support, and comprehensive health services to employer-clients.
Jay Blakey, Concentra’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Account Management, emphasized the importance of delivering on the brand promise. “We must continue to strive toward excellence and provide exceptional service because it is the one thing we can do to truly outshine the competition. We are creating a culture of service among our colleagues, giving the new brand an opportunity to make a positive impression through exemplary patient and customer care.”
Concentra, a leader in the delivery of health care solutions, announced today it has added levels of urgent care service to all 324 Concentra Medical Centers in more than 40 states across the country. This expansion makes Concentra currently the only health care organization with a national presence to offer urgent care services to the general public.
Through its network of affiliated clinicians, Concentra Urgent Care serves the general public and treats a wide variety of common illnesses, including skin conditions, seasonal allergies, lacerations, fractures, sprains, and strains. Additional services include diagnostic tests, preventive screenings, physical exams, vaccinations, physical therapy, and more. The centers are staffed with physicians and medical providers experienced in urgent care cases as well as family practice and occupational medicine. Depending on the specific clinical, equipment, and operational makeup of each medical center, Concentra Urgent Care locations treat minors, ranging from 6 months of age and older, to adults.
"Our national expansion into urgent care allows us the opportunity to provide skillful care to thousands of patients across the country, at times when a primary care physician may be unavailable," says W. Tom Fogarty, MD, Concentra's Chief Medical Officer. "When a patient visits a Concentra Urgent Care Medical Center, we can report back to his/her primary care physician as part of our commitment to provide exceptional patient care." Fogarty says that Concentra hopes its efforts will alleviate non-emergency visits to hospital emergency rooms. "Life- and limb-threatening emergencies should still be treated at the nearest hospital emergency room, but colds, flu, strep throat, minor scrapes, burns, and other non-life threatening injuries can be treated in our urgent care facilities - in most cases much faster and less expensively than in an emergency room visit."
The multi-disciplined team leading the national expansion of Concentra Urgent Care holds extensive experience in consumer-driven health care solutions and retail operations. One member of the team, Alan Ayers, serves as a content advisor to the Urgent Care Association of America and has developed retail solutions for several major organizations. As Assistant Vice President of Product Development, Ayers is working with Concentra’s clinical, operational, and sales teams to develop patient-centric solutions that are convenient, cost-effective, and emphasize quality outcomes.
"Concentra understands the challenges facing health care in the United States and is responding with solutions to make health care more accessible and affordable. By adding urgent care to our existing occupational medicine operation, we will significantly enhance our national presence in the consumer health arena," said Ayers.
Unlike the retail industry that has recently added medical services to its array of products, Concentra has been delivering exemplary medical care to the nation's workforce for nearly 30 years. And unlike big-box retail outlets, at Concentra Urgent Care, the primary focus is quality and affordable patient care.
As a leader in occupational health care services, Concentra has been at the forefront of the health industry. Applying its successful outcomes-based health care model to primary care, the company is delivering proven solutions, in and out of its medical centers. The national expansion of Concentra Urgent Care furthers the company’s mission of improving the health of America, one patient at a time.
"Urgent care providers fill the gap that sometimes exists between a primary physician and an emergency room. The ability of an urgent care center to provide episodic care for acute, non-life-threatening illness and injury is a critical component of any community's health system. National expansions like Concentra's continues that effort," said Lou Ellen Horwitz, Executive Director of the Urgent Care Association of America.
According to the Division of Health Care Statistics, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only 15 percent of presenting patients at hospital emergency rooms were triaged as emergent cases. Concentra Urgent Care offers a new option, easing the strain on the system, while providing patients with the same level of superior medical treatment, in a welcoming environment of respectfulness and care.
In many major insurance plans, urgent care co-payments are substantially lower than co-payments required for a trip to the Emergency Room. Concentra accepts numerous national group health insurance plans and is continuously adding more plans. Effective April 1, 2008, Concentra has acquired Trinity Regional Health System's two primary care occupational health centers – doing business as Trinity Work Fitness – in Davenport, Iowa and Moline, Illinois. Commonly referred to as the "Quad Cities," this metropolitan area is a new market for Concentra, which operates other medical centers in Iowa and Illinois.

The two Trinity Work Fitness locations will be the first Concentra locations in the Quad Cities, but Concentra already works with several national employers that have offices in the area.
"A national company like Concentra is able to provide the knowledge, research, and proven treatment protocols that will only make the care delivered locally even stronger than it already is," said Flo Spyrow, Trinity's Vice President of Operations. Callaway Medical Associates, LLP, d/b/a ProMed Minor Emergency Centers (“ProMed”) in the Charlotte, N.C., market, has sold the assets of two occupational health/urgent care centers to Concentra. This acquisition expands Concentra’s geographic footprint to six medical centers in the Charlotte metropolitan area and a total of nine centers in North Carolina.
In addition to occupational health and urgent care medical services, the Concentra centers will provide a range of preventive, wellness, and health education to current and new employer-clients throughout the community.
Serving the Charlotte community for more than 25 years, Clifford Callaway, M.D., started ProMed in 1979 as one of the first “minor emergency centers,” and expanding to serve employers’ workers compensation-related injury needs and provide efficient, episodic health care to private patients. Concentra intends to retain many of ProMed’s personnel, building on their tenure with the organization and the long-standing relationships they have established within the community.
Keith Newton, President and Chief Operating Officer of Concentra, said, “This is an excellent opportunity to expand our presence and service capabilities to local employers and the private-patient community in Charlotte and surrounding areas. ProMed has built a proven record of service to the Charlotte community, and we look forward to offering an expanded range of services to patients and clients.”

Concentra’s mission is improving America’s health, one patient at a time. It employs board-certified physicians, licensed therapists, occupational health specialists, and trained medical technicians to deliver quality heath care to people throughout the nation.
Concentra recently announced that it has acquired the primary care occupational health and urgent care assets of Springfield Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, P.C., d/b/a Springfield Physical Medicine, in Springfield, Mo. Concentra will combine its existing Springfield practice with that of Springfield Physical Medicine to form a new Concentra Medical Centers facility at Springfield Physical Medicine’s location:
The acquisition furthers Concentra's commitment to improving America's health, one patient at a time, and provides an opportunity to grow the practice's existing urgent care business and add physical therapy services. Concentra will continue to provide episodic care, preventive wellness, and health education to current and new employer-clients throughout the region.
Serving the Springfield community for more than 18 years, Charles Mauldin, M.D., founded Springfield Physical Medicine in 1989 with the goal of being a physical medicine and rehabilitation practice. Over the years, the practice grew due to direct referrals from company clients and soon became the preferred practice for an increasing number of employers. Dr. Mauldin is currently the chairman of the Worker's Compensation committee of Greene County and joins the Concentra team as Staff Physician; along with former Springfield Physical Medicine staff member Kristi Waeltz, who will serve as Center Administrator.
Keith Newton, President and Chief Operating Officer of Concentra, said, "We are very pleased about the opportunity to expand our presence and service capabilities to local employers in Springfield and surrounding areas. Springfield Physical Medicine has a proven record of service to the Springfield community, and we determined that the combination of our practices would offer a range of benefits for our patients and clients."
Concentra also provides work-related injury and non-injury health care services, including pre-employment physicals, flu shots, and drug testing. The company employs board-certified physicians, licensed therapists, occupational health specialists, and trained medical technicians to deliver exceptional heath care to people throughout America.
Concentra has announced the addition of three national experts to lead development of the company’s TotalCare and Urgent Care service lines. Since its founding as an occupational health company in 1979, Concentra has helped employers reduce health care expenditures while working as an advocate for patient health and safety. As consumers become more responsible for a greater proportion of their routine health care costs, and as employers look for ways to improve employee health, productivity, and job satisfaction, Concentra is expanding its offerings with TotalCare and Urgent Care.
Concentra TotalCare
TotalCare is Concentra’s newest service offering that focuses on preventing illness and injury, promoting health and productivity, and lowering the total cost of health care. TotalCare offers employers a customizable menu of primary, preventive, occupational, and environmental services that is focused on their employees’ health. To help communicate the primary elements of this service offering, Concentra TotalCare employs the term “Well. Fit. Safe”: Well encompasses health screening, education, targeted lifestyle interventions, and clinical preventive care; Fit includes fitness assessments, coaching, and enhanced physical activity; and Safe refers to the promotion of environmental health and occupational safety measures.
“Concentra developed TotalCare in response to our employer clients who were asking for a comprehensive approach to employee health care. We have a very real opportunity to shift the paradigm of how health care is communicated, delivered, monitored, and measured. By helping employees take increasing responsibility for their individual health and wellness, Concentra can be a driving force in improving the health of Americans.”
“I want to work with Concentra to empower people to lead healthier lives. Most Americans spend most of their waking hours at work and perform at very high levels. Concentra is uniquely positioned with medical expertise and operational know-how to help provide a solution to our nationwide epidemic of obesity and its negative trickle-down effects on our lives – at work and at home.”

Concentra Urgent Care
This year, Concentra began offering urgent care services to the general public in 40 Concentra Medical Centers in eight states. Staffed by physicians and offering X-ray and limited lab services on-site, Concentra Urgent Care saves time and money over the emergency room and offers night and weekend coverage for primary care. Concentra continues its national rollout of urgent care services and plans to offer some form of urgent care service in each of its 320-plus medical centers by the middle of 2008.
“Concentra understands the challenges facing health care in the United States and is responding with solutions to make health care more accessible and affordable,” says Ayers. “By adding urgent care to our existing occupational medicine operation, we will significantly enhance our national presence in the consumer health care arena.”

The company also announces the hiring of Marc W. Thorpe, M.D., who will serve as Concentra’s Area Medical Director beginning February 4. Dr. Thorpe has served the Jacksonville medical community since 1996. Concentra, the largest occupational health care provider with 320 centers across the nation, has launched a campaign to educate America’s workforce about the flu, how it is spread, and how to protect against it. The company expects to vaccinate nearly 300,000 people across the nation, saving businesses more than $200 million in lost productivity.
Concentra Medical Centers offers flu shot to various businesses and communities to keep America’s workforce healthy. Working with more than 150,000 of the country’s largest employers, as well as 250 employer-based health facilities, Concentra creates health solutions to keep employees well, fit, and safe – especially during the flu season.
“Concentra is poised to meet the needs of people across the country by providing flu shots when they need them, delivering the right care at the right time,” said W. Tom Fogarty, M.D., Concentra’s Chief Medical Officer.
Each year 1 in 5 people become sick with influenza. According to the Centers for Disease Control, one flu shot can save a business more than $1,000 in lost time by an employee who is not vaccinated and comes down with the flu. With nearly 300,000 flu vaccines given by Concentra, the company expects to save the nation’s economy more than $200 million through flu prevention.
Known as the flu, influenza is an extremely contagious respiratory infection. Flu symptoms are more severe than those of colds, come on more abruptly, and often include high fever, cough, and full body aches. It can cause severe complications, and result in an average of 36,000 deaths each year. Beginning in October, Concentra is on a mission to find a cure For What Ails You. This new theme is at the core of Concentra’s newest campaign to introduce its Urgent Care centers to various communities in the coming year, beginning with the launch of Urgent Care centers in the Detroit metropolitan area.
The For What Ails You campaign is designed to promote Concentra’s quality patient care for typical injuries and illnesses, as well as a cure for the high price of emergency services and the headaches associated with limited availability of primary care physicians particularly after normal business hours. Various print and radio ads will be featured throughout the Detroit market, along with billboard ads, posters, wallet cards, flyers, and magnets all featuring the For What Ails You messaging.
“This ad campaign uses humor to shed light on the issues we all face when having to make urgent decisions on where to seek appropriate medical care for non-life threatening illnesses and injuries,” said Assistant Vice President of Sales for Concentra, Rick Zidek. “Concentra Urgent Care is poised to address these issues with quality and efficient patient care, at times when most primary care physicians are unavailable and without the extensive wait times of an ER. We are the bridge between accessibility and affordability when treating urgent medical situations.”
Using a good-humored connection between a common illness and medical providers who can treat that illness conveniently and affordably, Concentra’s campaign helps consumers make appropriate choices when seeking medical care. Concentra’s mission is to make health care available and affordable, and delivers on that by offering a wide array of medical services to address most injuries, illnesses, or conditions.
Concentra maintains 9 Medical Centers in the Detroit area, all offering Urgent Care services. The company maintains 22 medical care facilities in Michigan, and 320 Centers nationwide, which help bridge the gap between primary care physicians and the emergency room.

Now a registered nurse for Concentra, Shane has returned to the site in the medical office.
“Being a 9/11 survivor, I felt it important to return to the site and contribute to the preservation of all those who lost their lives on that fateful September day,” said Shane.
The on-site medical office opened in late-July to accommodate any injuries that can occur during building construction. Opens Urgent Care Centers in Atlanta and Dallas
ADDISON, Texas, April 16, 2007 – Concentra Health Services, Inc. ("Concentra"), a leading provider of occupational health care services, announced today that it has expanded its presence with the opening of Concentra Urgent Care centers in Atlanta, GA, and Dallas, TX. The openings mark the launch of an aggressive expansion plan and join existing Concentra Urgent Care centers in Greater Detroit, MI; Flagstaff, AZ; and Houston and Waco, TX.
With over twenty-five years in the health care industry, Concentra clinicians and staff treat over 500,000 injuries annually. This experience uniquely positions its medical centers and staff to fill the gap between a patient’s Primary Care Physician (PCP) and the Emergency Room (ER). By utilizing its existing health care operations, Concentra provides superior urgent care during the day and after hours at a fraction of the cost for an ER visit. Expedited check-in and check-out procedures will result in drastically lower wait-times at Concentra Urgent Care, while easing non-emergency cases in ERs and allowing them to focus on true emergency cases.
Commenting on the announcement, Keith Newton, President of Concentra Health Services said, "Concentra’s mission is to make health care accessible and affordable. By introducing an Urgent Care model into our existing occupational medicine operation, we will significantly enhance our national presence in the health care arena. We are pleased that our Urgent Care Centers will allow us to serve the medical needs in these metropolitan areas, and nationally, as we expand our geographic footprint."
Concentra Urgent Care was also designed to complement the services provided by PCPs. Family physicians can instruct their answering services to refer their patients when their offices are closed, then Concentra will report back to the physician with a detailed record of the patient’s treatment. Concentra Urgent Care offers health care services during the day, with extended hours in the evening, and on weekends and holidays.
W. Tom Fogarty, M.D., Concentra’s Chief Medical Officer added, "Today’s research shows a clear need for quality urgent care throughout the day and after regular business hours. Many people, particularly parents and other caregivers, need a cost-effective, convenient alternative to the ER that is also available when their doctors’ offices are closed. Our physicians are experienced and licensed clinicians and specialists who embrace Concentra’s commitment to quality patient care."
